Sir Dennis Thatcher

Advance fee fraud

Congratulations. The late Sir Dennis Thatcher heard of your good deeds and has left you £950,000 in his will.

“This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true,” the email states.

“Being a widely travelled man, he must have been in contact with you in the past or simply you were nominated to him by his numerous friends abroad that wished you good.

“This money is to support your activities and to help the poor and needy in your country.”

To give this email credibility, it purports to come from a Father David Moor from a Catholic church in Dorset, London. Father Moor claims to act on behalf of the trustees and executor of Sir Dennis’ estate.

What we do know is this is another advance fee fraud email, which has hit mail inboxes throughout the world.

Scammers offer a large amount of money and, once the victim has been drawn in, requests are made for private information, which may lead to requests for money, stolen identities, and financial theft.

A number of newspapers, magazines and websites have published stories on the scam including UK tabloid The Inquirer (www.theinquirer.net/?article=25992).
