Exemptions from holding a licence
The Motor Vehicle Dealers Act gives the Motor Vehicle Industry Board the power to grant, under limited circumstances, an exemption from compliance with this Act to a finance provider, car hire operator or an auctioneer.
The exemption can be granted under the following conditions:
- Finance providers who ordinarily dispose of repossessed vehicles directly to licensed dealers.
- Car hire operators, who are not in the business of buying or selling vehicles for a profit and who ordinarily dispose of vehicles bought in the course their business directly to dealers.
- Auctioneers, where the selling of vehicles by auction does not comprise a significant part of the business as an auctioneer.
